The dude in the shades and goatee is Ernie.  He's a hedgehog who plays with yo-yos.  There's not a whole lot more to say, except that I like yo-yos, and I'm oddly fond of hedgehogs.  I think that probably started with Alice in Wonderland. Anyway, I think he makes a fine mascot, don't you?
